Our small homestead is located on the property that was purchased by Josh’s grandparents in the 1950s from another relative. Josh’s dad purchased the property from them in the 1980s, and after his passing in 2007, Josh and his brothers inherited the land.
Josh and Kenny began their hobby farming operations in 2006, because of Kenny’s passion for agriculture, and Josh’s desire for a simpler country life. Everything got started with a small vegetable garden, four Rhode Island Red chickens, and a few rabbits. From there our farm grew to include Valerie and Veronica, our first two goats. Since 2006, Spruce Run Farm has been a small but thriving homestead dedicated to growing fruits and vegetables, keeping bees, and raising livestock including goats, sheep, pigs, and poultry. What began as a family farm grew into something larger in 2016, when we created Mid-Maryland Farm Market… a hub where not only our harvests, but also the goods of fellow small farmers, homesteaders, and artisans could be shared with the community.
Most recently, in 2024, we expanded our roots by leasing a vineyard and planting grapes under the name Oak & Maple. With time, we hope to become the region’s newest and best local winery, carrying our passion for quality, sustainability, and community into every bottle.
